Rubbish and recycling

If there is one thing that irks me, it is people not following the rules for residential (or commercial) garbage collection. It seems to me to be such a disrespectful thing to do. And I feel like the people who put all sorts of crap into the wrong bins don’t care about our world, our environment or the social contract.

I have been managing the nourishment of a household in eastern Melbourne for about four weeks now. I could see from the outset that there were some issues with the rubbish bins. First, they were overflowing, and there were plastic bags full of general rubbish in the recycling bin and recycling in the green and FOGO waste bins.

I started to diligently sort the rubbish properly and found out when the bins were collected so that I could put them out so there would not be a backlog. But I can see that this work is pointless, as this afternoon I put out a green bin, that was so heavy, I think it had tools or something in it, and a yellow recycling bin which also seemed to have some heavy metal items in it.

They will get another warning from the Council, and then the green bins won’t get collected at all. There was already a notice on the green bin when I started to put the right things into it and put it out.

I can tolerate a lot of things. But I get quite angry when I am involved with a family who don’t care about the world and the environment enough to put the right things in the right bins!

Miffed!

The whole rubbish truck will be taken to landfill if it is contaminated with the wrong items!

I am so upset!
