When I got off the tele-facetime call with a family impacted by device usage at a young age today, I felt utterly dysregulated. I felt like I was totally overstimulated, and it made me feel sick in the stomach.
My intuition is that this may be why some kids aren’t verbal and aren’t able to relate to other humans. Perhaps they are overstimulated by all the sounds, and noises, and motion and colours of the screens, and it is aggressive to their senses, and so they shut down.
I believe I can help people to maybe, find other ways to provide a healthy environment for kids. My first thought was playing music and turning the screen OFF, but I guess that seems like an idea because that is what I do.
In any case, the child in question was covering his eyes with his hands as I spoke to him. It made me realise that it is TOO much for him. His little brain can’t handle the stimulation.
