What is the scenario in Australia’s housing market right now.
I read the news. I read the article twice actually.
Housing affordability has never been worse. Particularly for first home buyers. . . The interesting point that I could not miss was that there are 100,000 first home buyers, and !! (11) MILLION home owners (or people with a mortgage).
This seemed pertinent. . . as though the politicians don’t care about the first home owners, because their 11 million already have mortgages. . . . To that I would just ask HOW MANY renters??? Becauyse surely they WOULD want to buy a home, , , if it was even in the realm of possibility.
The economist whose comments I read in the Guardian today, said that we should ‘stop doing dumb stuff’…
What both governments did with their shared equity schemes and other incentives was to increase demand for housing. . . . When interest rates were so low, , , this was bound to happen. It drove prices up, , , and yeah, , , good for mortgage owners, very good for them, , , but for the 15 million people who DON’T have a mortgage (don’t quote me on that – I am not sure if it is 11 million households or 11 million PEOPLE__), , , this is not so good!
Growth at all costs
Last week when I was off with the pixies again, , , I wondered about the possibility of house prices coming down. . .
And again, , , if you have everything you need in life, , , what is profit for, exactly?
What do you need EXTRA money for??
It is tricky, , , because, , , money does help to build a better life. However, this is true only to a point, , , so I believe. . . beyond that. . . (maybe) it is meaningless.
Human needs
As for housing though, , , we can’t GET ENOUGH OF THAT!! We need more houses. . . do we?? I think so. . . that seems to be what the main political parties are saying (and the minor parties, , , as well). . .
Housing is a human need.
In some countries, it might even be a human right!
In some of the Scandinavian countries, they had a housing boom post-war and built a whole lot of housing that is now stable, safe, equitable, and comfortable for a LOT of people. . .
Maybe that is what we need in Australia. . . a housing boom!!
It seems easy to say that. . . But, , , the housing industry is unscrupulous. . . It reeks of money. . . Every man and his dog are trying to get their fair share (or mostly). . . Everyone (including the government, so Gabrielle de Vietri says, , , ) is in for the cash, for the profit. . .
It just has me thinking, , , thas all. . . I know some organisations provide SOCIAKL HOUSIGN. . . and that is what I am talking about. . . but housing for ALL (as well as those in dire need). . . just houses, and houses, and houses. . .
